One of my favorite aspects about mesh is the land impact that is saved. I remember years ago, feeling like such a prim whore, because I wanted those little details that really personalize a sliving space. However, back then you could use up 100 prims just decorating an end table. Now, most of the knick knacks are 1-3 li at most and I am so grateful. With that said, if you’re like me and love giving your sliving space some individual flare, then you need to know about Spruce. Spruce is a new store and yes, the creator is a friend of mine. Most of you are familiar with Harlow Heslop from Burrow Co and various other community spaces before that. However, she has taken on creating adorable decor items like pillows, candles, and now picture frames. I’m a huge fan of frames, as most of my friends and family are photographers. I love displaying their beautiful faces and talents around my home. I encourage you all to check out her store, located on the Burrow Co sim, as well as taking a good look at some of the other little decorative decor elements being made at various decor stores. Don’t limit your vision to complete decor sets, but mix things up. I hope that my photo showcases a little bit about that very subject and if my post doesn’t inspire you, please take a look at some of the amazing decor shots you can find in some of the home groups on flickr.
I was hanging out with some of my favorite people last night and one of them made a comment about “lazy homeless” people. I quickly jumped on the defensive. As I have been homeless on a number of occasions in my 20s and there was nothing lazy about my situation. Of course, I encountered loads of other homeless people during those times. I had to explain that while there are some people that simply don’t want to be responsible members of society. However, the bulk of the homeless people I encountered were anything but lazy. As being homeless is not an easy way to live. People that live in shelters must abide by an excess of rules put in place to keep things as orderly as possible. There are curfews and requirements one must continuously make to continue their stay and many shelters have limitations on how long people can reside there. I don’t have specific numbers, but I’d dare say that the majority of homeless people have not chosen that lifestyle as their preferred method of existence. Plus there are far more living without shelter. That is NOT an easy way to live. Its beyond dangerous. Once a person is homeless, it is safe to say that getting back on your feet is ridiculously hard. As I pointed out to my friend, what is the first thing you do the morning of a job interview? Shower, right? If you have no home, you have no shower and probably don’t have much in the way of a clean nice outfit to wear. Anyway, the point is, don’t be so quick to judge people in situations you can’t begin to understand. Turns out that one of the other people there had also experienced homelessness and was glad that I spoke up. Meanwhile, our uninformed friend was enlightened and apologized. I didn’t find the apology necessary, but it was appreciated. I was especially glad that we were all able to have such a beautiful conversation about life without hate or disgust. I won’t name them, because too many private matters were discussed and only my part of the story is mine to tell. I suspect they might read this and because they might I want to give them to know something. I love you and I’m so grateful for your friendship. I look forward to getting to know you even better in the years to come. ♥
Clearly that has nothing to do with the photo. So, I’d like to add that if you have not gotten the Spring Decocrate, this set from Serenity Style is worth getting it, just for this set. Even if you didn’t pre order it, its worth the price. Go grab yours. I have to pay full price, too, cuz I forgot to pre order…lol. You’ll also notice I’m wearing the new Lost Girl dress from Vinyl. This is the first dress Vinyl has released in ages and its so cute! AND it goes perfectly with these new wedges that Breathe released at the Arcade! So get out your wallets, its time to go shopping!!

Don’t faint. I know, its a decor only post and I haven’t done one of those in ages. Trust me, you’ll see it again, cuz I plan on posing with this scene, too. Plus, I never said I wouldn’t blog decor. How could I not, I love decorating. I’m so in love with with the CONCEPT} CASA PARADISO set at Arcade. So, not only will you see this scene again, or at least parts of it. You will also see more from that set. So, without further blabbering, I’m going to start working on something else! HA! Bathroom scenes have always been my most challenging, too. So, here I am trying to do another one. Be nice.

It saddens me to know that there are so many people out there expending valuable time and energy on hateful activities. More than ever the world needs love. More than ever people need compassion. More than ever we need open minds and open hearts. Is it really so hard for us to keep our nasty, negative comments to ourselves? Listen, this isn’t a lecture. Far be it for me, of all people, to tell others how to live. I’m as far from perfect as they get and I’m as guilty as the next person of making snarky comments about someone I don’t even know to a friend in a private IM. However, these things haunt me when I lie down to sleep at the end of the day. These thoughts do not rinse away when I wash my face and brush my teeth before bed. No, these wretched thoughts haunt me…sometimes for years. So, why do we do it? I don’t have an answer, but I do know that I’m going to try to be better.

She wasn’t the crazy cat lady, not yet anyway. For now, she was the mother of kittens. No, not the ones you heard about as a kid that lost their mittens. No, these little babies had lost their mommas…and she made it her duty to nurture them, show them love, and find them forever homes. Until they were ready, she would take for picnics and read them tales of humans and feed them tidbits of lunch meat from her sandwiches. And they all lived happily ever after.

I don’t know if its as present in other forms of social media as it is on Facebook, but it’s there that passive-aggressive behavior seems to thrive in the forms of elusive memes mysteriously aimed at the poster’s offender. However, this is not the only place or form of said behavior. It’s also exhibited by avoiding people and repeatedly making up reasons to avoid particular individuals as a way of expressing distaste for certain people. I’m pretty sure we’ve all done that. These behaviors are often destructive, but odds are that we all are guilty of this at one time or another. With a little research and a bit of work on ourselves, we can learn to understand the causes and how to properly deal with our emotions. In doing so, we can become mentally healthier and reduce hurting those we love. At the end of the day, do we really want to hurt each other? I know I don’t.

“The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth, the capacity for sacrifice. Ironically, their virtues make them vulnerable; they are often wounded, sometimes destroyed.”

I don’t think I have ever had more fun putting together a decor scene. So, let me just tell you how this happened. My friend, Sassy Wumpkins, was hanging out with me on my platform as I was rezzing stuff out to blog. She started grabbing stuff and arranging it! I just laughed, but before I had time to really think about it…we were working together and well…tadaaaa!! My Sassafrass has really helped me a great deal with this scene and I’m so happy with it.
While putting this room together, I was just imagining how amazing it would feel to sink down into this superbly comfortable looking chair from DaD with a good book, some hot tea, and a light snack. Settling in for a nice afternoon with the sunlight streaming in the windows, reflecting off the crystals in the light…the little lights twinkling as the sun goes down. I can easily see losing track of time in a place like this. While I might not have room for a space like this in real life, I can live vicariously though my avatar as so many of us do. I wonder what kind of non sexual fantasies other people bring to life in Second Life. I’d love to hear about yours if you care to share. ♥
