White

Not too long ago, someone asked me why I wear so much white and who was I trying to fool? I was confused by the question, but they went on to explain that I was trying to act innocent. Uhm, no, not even close. The thing is, I can’t wear white in real life. I mean, I can, but it won’t be white long. One drink, one meal and its over. One jump up from the dog, one scratch from the cat…its over. Naturally, I have very few white items in my real life wardrobe. I even had an avatar forever ago in Second Life (Ayn Rang) that only wore white. *hangs her head* She was a neko….yes, a full fledged flexi neko…*waits for you to stop laughing*…white hair…ears & tail…and clothes. It was so hard to find all white clothes and whites that matched back then, but now? Thanks to amazing designers and huds…I can wear white anytime I want. Or any other bright or light colors!

Every Leaf is a Flower

I love the changing of the leaves in fall. I live in a condo that has a lovely entrance and the avenue that comes down into our neighborhood is lined with the most colorful trees. Every fall, we are blessed with brilliant reds, bright golds, bold oranges…and not just on the trees, but on the ground and whisking around the cars as we generate a gentle wind. The crisp air tingles exposed flesh just enough to make you appreciate your sweater. As the world shifts from greens to the warmest of earth tones, we see the shift of decor in homes, yards, and stores. It makes me crave hot chocolate and caramel apples. I love how creative people get with their pumpkins, too. Reserving them for Autumn rather than mutilating them to make some jagged scene or face for Halloween. This is the coziest of all the seasons to me and though the shift in weather causes me to ache and hurt more physically than usual, I could never hate it.

E2V-I’m No Expert, but…

So, there’s been a lot of posts on Facebook (and other social media, I’m sure) as well as notices being sent out in SL about the E2V system shutting down. I’m no expert, but let let me try to explain what’s happening. I’ve been watching designers scramble for solutions and suggestions to their customers. It truly breaks my heart. I’ve heard a lot of bitching from others about being forced to use or lose their credits. So, I wanted to take a minute and explain what I know about the situation, regarding both sides.
I’m going to start with the designers. I’m hoping that customers will read this and perhaps have a bit more empathy for the designers and their predicament. The way the system works is that they drop a script into their vendors and they have a server in which they drop the actual product. This system stores the purchase history of each customer, the products, maintains the credits, and re-deliveries. These designers were given a very short notice to come up with an alternative system and change over all of their vendors. Some of these stores have thousands of vendors. Think about each single color, plus fatpacks. They have to manually go through all of those vendors to set up said new system or go back to the old days when you simply bought the contents of the box, there were no credit systems or gifting options. This is going to be a tremendous amount of tedious work, regardless of which direction they go with their vendors. There are options out there, but each designer has to figure out what is best for them. I know that if I were a designer, I’d probably go back to the old way of doing things to prevent myself from ever being in this situation again.
From the customer’s perspective, some of them have been saving their credits so they can eventually afford a fatpack, or they’ve got so much credit they can’t possibly spend it all right away. As one of my friends stated, “I have everything I want from that store and there’s nothing new at the moment.” Fortunately, we all have until the end of May to use those gift cards and credits. Something else to remember, in the real world gift cards expire after one year and sometimes you get a gift card for a store that goes out of business before you ever get a chance to use it. I understand that it’s going to suck if you lose your store credits in this process, but its not the end of the world. I promise. I know that most stores are honestly trying to find an alternative for you all, but some stores are simply too big and their database is too massive to manually reach out to each and every customer while changing their vendors at the same time.
This is a lose lose for everyone. I’m asking that everyone remember that this does not affect just one or two people….one or two stores…this is a grid wide disaster. Please be kind to one another. Be patient, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. To customers, I beg you to please be kind to the designers. Do not yell at them, this is NOT their fault, no more than it is yours. Designers, I know you are all trying so hard and most of you have probably broken down into tears at some point. Try to remember that so many of your customers are simply confused and absolutely unaware of the details of this situation. I ask that everyone please refrain from attacking one another. I trust that designers will go out of their way to assist as many people as they can, but you will need to be patient as these designers have more on their plates at the moment than they’ve had in a very long time. Remember we’re all here to have fun…so please please please be kind to one another and try to understand…no one wanted this, but it is what it is.

We Can Be Friends

I hear it all the time, “Men and women can’t truly be friends.” I know better. Okay, perhaps it’s true that one or both of them think about or have thought about sleeping with the other. Hell, maybe they even did once or twice, but if a friendship is what developed between them and there’s no real romantic connection, there’s absolutely no reason they can’t be friends. Unless one of you is a stalker or a rapist, of course. I have plenty of guy friends in SL, most of whom I have NOT slept with and never will. There’s never been an issue with sexual tension or anything of the sort. So, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be just friends with the opposite sex or whatever your sexual preference might be. It’s simply a matter of establishing boundaries and mutual respect.

OMG

I grew up in a pretty strict church setting. Though my father never went to church, my mother would drag me every other Sunday (she worked the other Sundays) and the Nazarene church is no joke. Aside from the fact that they change their doctrine rules every few years about dress codes, they had a lot of rules…like we weren’t allowed to play cards (even Go Fish) because that was considered gambling. So, it should come as no surprise that the only time you mentioned God was during prayer, Sunday school, bible study, or church, but to say, “Oh my God” or “For Jesus Sake” was taking the Lord’s name in vain. Oh and you can’t set anything on top of the bible…*rolls her cartoon eyes like Dusty.*
Now, I left that church a very very long time ago, but I can’t help but wonder how they reacted to the whole, “OMG!” Did they adjust their doctrine again? Did they yell at the kids the way they used to? Hell, are there even any kids still going to that church after they hit 13? Hardly was when I was a kid. Meh, I don’t care enough about the answer to that question to go check it out, I’ll tell you that much. Cuz, like, OMG, they totally think I’m like the fucking devil, right?”

Furry Knees

How differently would you behave if you knew your every single moved was being observed? I’m talking about every move…every breath…every sneeze…even your trips to the bathroom….your shower…your private time…when you sleep. I just finished watching The Circle with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. The entire concept of privacy and social media is explored in a really interesting way. It got me thinking…about the smallest of things…like whether or not my feet look dry. Would I tell say that pants are overrated and keep them off as I move freely about my own home? Imagine absolutely no privacy ever. Not that someone IS always watching, but they could be and you’ve no way of knowing unless you’re interacting on social media. Just thinking about this made me push my hair behind my eyes and cross my bare legs under my desk.
Of course, the squirrels distracted me and I quickly forgot that I was acting as if…I think there’s probably a few things I’d do different, I’m sure, but I think we’d probably just get a lot more real with one another. No, I didn’t shave my legs today…yesterday either. I know! *giggles* Of course, I will now, cuz everyone is gonna ask and we all know that Tracy Redangel is the one with the furry knees.

Enjoy Yourself

There seems to be an awful lot of talk on Facebook in the SL blogger circles about the do this and the don’t do that. I honestly feel like somethings are basic blogger common sense, but at the end of the day there is only one real answer to the how to blog question. ANY WAY YOU WANT! I joke around a lot saying, “I do what I want.” Yet, the statement is truer than most would believe. I’ve heard people say, “Don’t use bad language in your blog. Its not professional.” Fuck that, its my blog and I’ll damn well write whatever I want. Now, I’m fully aware that some designers would not like to sponsor a blogger like me. That’s fine. I completely understand. So, then the decision falls on me as to which is more important….being true to myself or getting sponsors? For me, the answer is simple. I did not begin blogging with the hopes of obtaining free stuff. I’ve never catered my blog to appeal to a certain audience. My regular readers (all five of them) will tell you that when you click on my blog link there’s absolutely no telling what you will find. However, one thing is for sure. You WILL find links to the items, poses, and places I’ve blogged if at all possible.
I’ve heard that posting lyrics and links to a song is lazy. Ok, well, go write a book for each of your blog posts and leave me to mine. Because on the other side of that coin, I’ve had people thank me for introducing them to music or lyrics they weren’t familiar with before. I’ve heard people say that writing anything is a waste of time. Ah, but guess what? I don’t really write for others as much as I write for myself. You see, I’m easily amused and I also know that ranting can often be good for soul. So, whether I write or share a poem, share a song, write a story, talk about my life, or rant about something that’s been on my mind. I do it for me, first and foremost. I will admit that it sends me over the moon with glee when someone tells me that they enjoyed something in my blog.
So, to my fellow bloggers out there worrying about the “rules of blogging,” remember that the very first rule and really the only one that matters is: Enjoy yourself.
