Litte Joey loved going through his grandfathers old pictures. As he pulled out a particularly old one he’d never seen before, he looked up at his grandfather, “Who is this, PapPaw?”
The old man’s shaky hands reached for the photo and smiled, “Oh, these two are legends. Josh and Sady were responsible for saving the entire grid from impending doom.”
Little Joey’s eyes got big, “Oh PapPaw, tell me more! Tell me all about Sosh and Jady!”
The old man chuckled and put the photo back in the box closing it up, “Another time, Joey, time for you to get to bed.” He tucked his grandson in for the night, kissing his forehead, “Sweet dreams, Joey.”
As he climbed into bed with his wife, he kissed her sweetly, “Little Joey found the picture of us from the Apocalypse party at ThereAfter. Hope you’re ready to be a hero,” he chuckles, “Telling him quite a story tomorrow.”
Sady giggled and kissed Josh, “You and your stories, my love.”
“I learned it from watching you, okay?”
They both laughed and slipped off to sleep.

Lotion

She had a strange habit of putting on her shoes before her dress. For one thing, she had to see how she was going to look wearing nothing but the shoes. Ya never know when you might just end up that way, right? She also had an addiction to shoes. She would readily admit that. Hell, tonight she was dressing around them. Having no clue what she was wearing aside from her new Alma platforms and her favorite lotion, she giggled to herself, “she puts the lotion on the skin or she gets the hose again.”

Setting Off Alarms

Time for some more real talk. This time, I’m talking about profiles, the kinds of profiles that should set off alarms. You ready? Let’s get it started! Going to just list off some common things I see around the grid that should set off alarms based on my almost 11yrs on the grid.

1. Profiles that read, “Just came back to SL after a long break.” Chances are this person is an alt. I’m not saying don’t talk to them, but take it slow and watch them closely.
2. Profiles that have threat picks. You know the ones…”if you touch/hurt so & so, I will rip your heart out of your chest and shove it down your throat” kinda picks. Clearly, they’re not going to do any of that and the fact that they feel the need to make such threats publicly shows a lack of maturity and intelligence.
3. Blank profiles. C’mon people, put some effort into you SL. Blank profiles suggest you’re an alt or terribly boring. Either way…ALARM bells!
4. Overtly sexy profile pics. Legs spread with a bottle between your legs, may be a hot a picture, but its sending a message to everyone that looks at your profile. Skank that likes to drink. You either want nothing but sex or you’re desperate for attention.
5. The declaration against drama. I’m going to tell you right now. These people are usually the ones stirring the pot, then stepping back with their popcorn to watch the damage. RUN! Let me explain, you cannot get through life without drama. Don’t believe me, perhaps you need to see the definition of drama. Do allow me to enlighten you.

6. Declaration of being a bitch/asshole. Chances are they’re correct, so why even bother. These people have up walls and they’ve just informed you of that fact. Do you honestly feel like jumping through hoops for them before you’ve even gotten to know them?
7. Emo picks. If their picks are full of emotional vomit. They’re either going to bring you down or suck you into it. Its exhausting and seriously, did you come to SL for that?
8. Passive aggressive picks. They have a pick clearly aimed at someone they believe is watching their profile, but don’t have the balls to just say it directly to whomever they’re talking about. Chances are the next one could be aimed at you. Why bother?
9. Profiles that read like an online dating profile. There are actual sites & groups in SL for that, but overall that is not the main objective of Second Life. C’mon, everyone you meet here isn’t looking for love. Just stop it already.
10. Profiles that declare they keep SL & RL separate.  This is impossible unless that avatar is strictly for Role-Play purposes and says so straight away. Some aspect of the real person behind the avatar is involved with how they interact in this virtual world. This person is most likely hiding something.

So, there’s my top ten profile warning signs. It pays to read profile before approaching each other and often shows you whether or not you have something in common.

Picnic Party

She had arrived at the park early to set up the annual picnic for her college friends. She had set everything up just right and was just lazing about watching nature and reading. She could hardly concentrate as she was so excited. She hadn’t seen some of them in ages and this was their own special reunion. They had no desire for class reunions and alumni parties. These were the special people that had kept in touch. Sure, most of it was on Facebook or over the phone…a few even used email, but this was going to be a party day. She had the best wines, cheeses, sandwiches, lemonade, fresh bread, and plenty of blankets and pillows for people to pair off to have private conversations if they wanted.

As she lied there reading her book, she began to wonder if she had forgotten anything. Oh dear, did she have the right date? She quickly pulled out her phone and confirmed the date. Whew, that would have been a mess! She was so nervous….what if HE showed up? What if he didn’t? What if he brought a date? Why did she sign up for this? What was she thinking?
She poured herself a glass of wine and decided it was too late now, just drink and relax. Its just a picnic in the park. Yes, it would be a fun day and if no one showed up, well, she’d just invited strangers to partake and she’d make new friends. Yes, that’s what she’d do….and she’d have another glass of wine.
Eventually her friends did show up. HE showed up…without a date or a wedding ring.

Training Day

Mr. Snortle loved training day, because it meant he got his favorite treats. She loved the one on one time they spent together. It was always a good day. That one day a week, she dedicated to Mr. Snortle…Snorts for short. This particular day was perfect. The temperature was nice, there was even a nice cool breeze blowing the leaves and trees about. They had spent quite a bit of time outside that morning. She had taken him on a picnic. She laughed so much when he took off after that squirrel. “Just like his momma,” she thought to herself.
She’d even managed to pick up some fresh sunflowers for herself a friend. They were a special flower, as they reminded him of his father. He was coming over for dinner later and she thought they would be a nice surprise. Snorts just adored him, too. Today was going to be a good day, start to finish. What Snorts didn’t realize was that her friend was going to help give him a bath and as much as he loved playing in water, bath time was not his favorite activity. It sure amused her though. Plus she was going to change her sheets later and take a long hot bath herself. Surely, Mr. Snortle would appreciate that wonderful feeling of clean sheets after a bath, right?

Kings & Queens

She didn’t know how it happened or how she got there, but she was somehow thrust into the middle of a fierce battle.. Papers were swirling, bodies were flying, the screams were deafening. All she could do was fall to the ground where she discovered a beautiful white kitten. She held the kitten close as she tried to wave off flying debris. From the yelling, she was able to determine what started the war. The queen of one territory had fallen in love with the king from another, thus their partners had declared war. Villagers were torn between their loyalties, ripped from their homes as they lost trust in their leaders. Soldiers fought and died without even knowing if they were fighting for their king or their queen. It was horrendous and as she sunk to the ground, she could feel the earth shake as tendrils of ivy began twisting and turning, stretching across the land…even beneath her. She shrieked and closed her eyes unable to bear witness to the war for one more moment.
It was then that the wind and noise ceased, she lifted head to realize that she had fallen asleep on her chess board while trying to learn the game, her little white kitten curled up in her lap.
