Kitsune…huh?

I’d say its fairly obvious that I’m not into anime or even Asian culture. Though, I do love some Asian cuisine! So, the first time I saw or even heard of a kitsune was in Second Life. Even then, I wasn’t all that interested. I just assumed it was a cute creature from Anime. I was like, “Kitsune…huh?” Eventually, I looked it up! What I found surprised me.

Kitsune in the literal sense is the Japanese word for fox. Foxes are a common subject of Japanese folklore; in English, kitsune refers to them in this context. Stories depict legendary foxes as intelligent beings and as possessing paranormal abilities that increase as they get older and wiser. –Wikipedia

If you keep reading the Wiki page about it, you’ll discover that the more tails it’s more powerful, older, and wiser. So, as you can see by just the little bit of information on the Wiki page, kitsune isn’t an anime thing after all. They are part of Japanese folklore more so than anime. Now, I just feel stupid for always assuming that’s what they were. Just a gentle reminder to do a little research before we go running off at the mouth about things we don’t really know about.

Try to be Better

It saddens me to know that there are so many people out there expending valuable time and energy on hateful activities. More than ever the world needs love. More than ever people need compassion. More than ever we need open minds and open hearts. Is it really so hard for us to keep our nasty, negative comments to ourselves? Listen, this isn’t a lecture. Far be it for me, of all people, to tell others how to live. I’m as far from perfect as they get and I’m as guilty as the next person of making snarky comments about someone I don’t even know to a friend in a private IM. However, these things haunt me when I lie down to sleep at the end of the day. These thoughts do not rinse away when I wash my face and brush my teeth before bed. No, these wretched thoughts haunt me…sometimes for years. So, why do we do it? I don’t have an answer, but I do know that I’m going to try to be better.

If Life Gives You Lemons

They say that if life gives you lemons you should make lemonade, but what if lemonade gives you heartburn? I say there are lots of ways to use lemons. In fact, I could surpass Bubba Gump and his uses for shrimp if I started listing all the things you can do with lemons. Soooo, if lemonade gives you heartburn, like it does me, then make lemon cake or lemon cookies or use it for cleaning or use it with chicken or fish….you see where this is going. The point is…if life gives you lemons, you’re ahead of the game! Now, if life gives you crabs….well, you might need to slow down and see a doctor.

Once upon a time it had been a grand house, almost a mansion. It stood alone at the end of a long winding wooded road. Now in ruins, remnants of what once was remain as broken echos of a time long gone. The only sign of life is the lone red balloon that lingers near the piano and ever growing foliage that attempts to consume the wreckage over the years.

Closer to the Light

I was listening to one of my favorite artists while taking this photo and I thought that perhaps I’d use one of her songs. I will provide a link, of course. However, instead of sharing lyrics that don’t really express what I’m feeling right now, I want to explain why her music really draws me in. If you’ve never heard of her, I hope you will listen to the song I’ve linked below and explore more of her music on youtube.
While I love all sorts of music, there’s something magical about Tash. I never try to sing along or even really understand the lyrics. I simply chill out. There’s just this peace that washes over me and if there’s a fan blowing on me (there almost always is) then I can feel myself transcending to a completely different plane. I’ll let you judge for yourself, but I’d love to know how she makes you feel….if you like her, that is…I do realize she’s not for everyone. *smiles*

Oh Deer

When I was putting this scene together, I couldn’t help but get lost as I was thrown down memory lane. Earlier this year, I lost my aunt. I shouldn’t say I lost her, because to be honest, I didn’t really like her. My mom lost her sister. My mom was and still is quite heartbroken. While I didn’t like my aunt very much, there were things I liked about her. I loved visiting her for a few days at a time, because she lived on a mountain in the hills of West Virginia. I know, I know, but seriously, its a beautiful state, especially in the fall when the leaves are so vibrant. I loved being so enveloped in mother nature. There were deer that would come into her yard every night as the sun was going down and you never knew when you’d see a bear lurking about looking for apples. My aunt was especially gullible and I even had her hunting ghost orbs in the Catholic cemetery at the bottom of the mountain once. *laughs* Her home was rustic and so far removed from modern society to include dial up internet as it was all she could get where she lived.
I didn’t agree with her views on life, religion, or politics. I didn’t think she was a very nice person, but there we managed to share some funny moments. Like the time we mouthed words to each other and made my mother think she was going deaf. She fought hard the last few years of her life and finally couldn’t fight anymore. I understood that and I admired her decision to tell her family she was done fighting. To say goodbye and let her go. I know that took a lot of courage for her, considering how close she was to her children and how much she loved her husband. I dedicate this post to her, even though she has never approved of me, my lifestyle, my beliefs, etc. *laughs*
