What If…Cinderella..

We all know the fairy tale about Cinderella, but I can’t help but wonder, “What if Cinderella had been born a lesbian?” Perhaps she met Prince Charming at the ball and was like, “Meh.” What if she’d been more attracted to one of the many women at the ball hoping to become the next princess? What if she didn’t even want a spouse and just wanted to live a quiet little life in the country with nature, away from the evil family that enslaved her? What if she wanted to be a lumberjack and here comes this Fairy Godmother thrusting her into another situation she doesn’t want to be in. Maybe she dropped that slipper as a cry for help. I mean, seriously, glass shoes cannot be comfortable! So, the fairy tale was written for the girl to be saved by a man. What if that man turned out to be a big ole control freak who beat her ass worse than the step-mom? Noooo, we just assume they lived happily ever after! Ever wonder why there was no sequel? I’ll tell you why, she probably killed his conceited ass. Throwing a ball to find a wife? Seriously? Was that the original Bachelor? Yes, these are the random sorta things I lie in bed thinking about at night. You’re welcome.

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary

When I was in the first grade, I wanted my name to be Mary so I changed it…without telling anyone. If I did tell them, they dismissed it as childish banter and went on about their day forgetting all about it. I had all my friends calling me Mary at school and at home, but adults didn’t seem to notice, because in my warped little mind I still answered to my birth name. Anyway, where was I….oh yeah, so six year old me changed her name to Mary, even wrote my name on my homework that way. No one said anything, so I kept on doing it thinking the deed was done. I was happy. My new name was Mary and when I grew up I would move to New York City and throw my hat into the air. (Some of you will get that.)
One day, my parents were called in for teacher-parent meeting. The teacher insisted I had not turned in any of my assignments for over two weeks. My parents defended me. They knew I had done my homework, because they watched me sit at the foot of their bed while we all watched TV every night. So, they call me in the room and ask me where my work was. Naturally, I told them I turned it in. The teacher was so confused. She pulled out a stack of papers and asked me to find my work. I went right to my page and pulled it out. As I handed it to the teacher, my parents smiled quite smugly if I remember correctly. Afterall, their child was brilliant and they were right. The teacher looked at the paper, pulled our her role book, scanned the list of names saw that the last names matched but not the first. When she showed it to my parents, they were confused. So, I had to explain to the stupid adults that I had changed my name. Imagine my surprise when they told me I couldn’t just change my name any ole time I wanted. Hmmpf.

She had a strange habit of putting on her shoes before her dress. For one thing, she had to see how she was going to look wearing nothing but the shoes. Ya never know when you might just end up that way, right? She also had an addiction to shoes. She would readily admit that. Hell, tonight she was dressing around them. Having no clue what she was wearing aside from her new Alma platforms and her favorite lotion, she giggled to herself, “she puts the lotion on the skin or she gets the hose again.”

Walking With Koi♥

There legends about the Koi fish. Legends about them representing luck, strength, abundance, success, spirituality…even love and friendship. For me, they are just fascinating fish. Whether big or small, they fill ponds across the world, and their colors are so vibrant that it reminds me of watching a fire. I can just be mesmerized by watching them swim about for hours. So, when Jian released this Koi Pond Gazebo with a glass floor, I was immediately in love! I just love walking around in it and looking beneath my feet to watch the fish. Facing Her Fear

The water was so cold! She slid her body in feet first….slowly lowering her legs into the frigid pool. She hadn’t been swimming since she was a child and almost drown, but she had to get over that. She had to face her fear. She loved the water, so being afraid of getting in beyond the depths of a bathtub was something she was determined to do. This was the year. After all, how was she going to host a pool party if she couldn’t even get in her own pool.
Yes, she had a pool that she had never swam in. She thought by getting the gorgeous pool with waterfalls and plants installed…well, she thought she would swim. Instead, her nieces used it every other weekend. No more, she was going to do this. She could and she would. She sat there, frozen and shivering with water to her upper thighs. Her arms shaking, “Just let go!” She repeated to herself over and over until her arms gave out and she was in the water. She flailed about for what seemed like an hour, but was honestly more like a minute. Grabbing at the edge of the pool, she got her head above the water and smiled to herself. “I didn’t drown,” she thought.
She inched her way around to the shallow end of the pool until she could stand up and waded about with the water chest high. She noticed that the parts of her that were under water, were warmer than those above and she went a little deeper…until the water was neck high. She remembered her swimming lessons as a kid and slowly lifted her feet, swinging her arms to and fro, “I’m treading water!”
Alright, she was going to be fine. Swimming, check, Overcoming her fear of water, check. Now…about those airplanes….
