Retail Therapy Is Real

Retail therapy is a great quick fix for the blues or even the magentas (100pts if you get that). I mean, who doesn’t feel better after shopping? It’s exciting! Just don’t look at the bill or how much you spent right away. No sense ruining the buzz for no reason. Granted retail therapy is a short term solution for a bad mood and has no real therapeutic value, but at least at the end of it you have something to show for your money. Thus, I must argue that it is a far better vice than drugs (except marijuana lol), alcohol, or gambling (especially if you suck at it.) While, it none of the aforementioned proclivities can replace actual therapy, it is a great way to perk yourself up.
There are some lasting benefits to shopping, too. You buy multiple items and you get excited each time you use/wear one of your new items for the first time. Then as you discover more about the items, its even more exciting. OMG, you mean this dress has pockets!?!? See? We all know women love some pockets! This blender is also a food processor? WHAT?!?! See? Exciting! Again, I’m not suggesting you use retail therapy to put yourself in the poor house or to replace actual therapy, but the next time you’re feeling a little blue…give it a try, I think you’ll discover that I’m right….as usual. *grins*

Actions

Actions will always speak louder than words, you just have to know how to listen by watching. I’ve talked about friendship dozens of times. Obviously, I’m no expert. I don’t even like people that much. That’s why I spend so much time alone. The older I get, the more people I get to know, the more true it becomes that I’m happier alone more often than not. However, if there’s one thing I do know, it’s this: A real and valued friendship can conquer adversity with truth.
Disposing of a friendship without any explanation speaks volumes about the type of person you are and what value you placed on that friendship. It doesn’t say shit about why you walked away. I’m not saying that everyone is due an explanation. Sometimes, its so obvious to us that we can’t imagine the other person would question why. The thing is, if they come to you confused and you refuse an explanation, not only have you just expressed how unimportant that person is to you, but you come off  a bit cowardly in my opinion. Your reason is yours, but if you’re not ready to explain or defend that reason…well, that really says more about you than them, don’t you think?
If your attitude and demeanor changes towards a friend, trust that they will notice. Furthermore, if they approach you about that change and you deny it? Well, you might as well unfriend them with no explanation. You’ve essentially just lied to their face and said in no uncertain terms that they are not worth the truth. Authentic friendships will not unravel over a little disagreement or even a big one, if both parties are mature and care enough to work through it.
Just food for thought, because I’ve dealt with all of these situations recently. I know I’m not perfect, but I do think I’m a decent friend more often than not. I own my mistakes and I own my pain. I will tell you that it hurts to be blatantly deceived and betrayed by someone you believed in. If you ever valued your friend, why not grab some ice cream, take a little walk, and talk it out. Maybe you can’t resolve it, but you damn sure won’t if you don’t try.

People DO Change

I really hate the phrase, “A leopard never changes its spots.” I disagree with the meaning behind it, completely. If meant literally, then its just a fact. However, it is rarely said with literal intent. It refers to people not being able to change their true character. I just do not believe that’s true. I believe that people can and do change, especially with age. Now, I understand that the phrase is actually refers to people’s innate traits, but again, I know that people DO change. I know they do, because I have…several times. The older I get, the more I evolve and change. I think that’s true about most people. No matter how old you, think back to who you were 7-10 yrs ago. I certainly hope you changed. We learn and we grow, to suggest otherwise is simply ridiculous to me. To suggest that someone cannot or will not change is really quite an insult. It’s like suggesting there’s no hope or reason to continue living and learning.

I’m a Bad Girl

So, word has it that there’s a certain person out there roaming the grid with her panties all in a twist, riding up her crack simply because I exist. Once upon a time, someone did me wrong and this little birdy was unfortunate enough to hear me say a bad word. Lo and behold, this little birdy has decided that I should be released from all my SL jobs…blah blah blah….she’s been whining all over Facebook and to anyone that will listen. Unfortunately for her, I guess most people are all under some grand delusions about me. Was calling someone a bitch that serious? Does she even have a clue what happened to me to cause me to say such a thing? Well, no, of course not. However, I cleaned my side of the street and apologized to both the person I called the name and the upset little birdy for having to hear it and THAT was months ago. I’m big enough to admit my mistakes. I’m not perfect. Lord, someone smack me down right now, if I ever said I was…nope, more often than not I hate myself more than this silly little birdy ever could. Kinda sad she’s given me so much power over her life, I never asked for all that space in her empty little head. I mean, I’m guessing its pretty empty if she got all that room in there for me. Oh well, I suppose she can attend meetings with all my other haters, maybe she’ll meet some new friends that will take her mind off me. I think they’d get along quite nicely.

Because I Can

I love dressing super sexy/slutty in SL, because I can. I’ve been known to dress up like an elf, a cat, a murderer, a skater, a devil, and a variety of other things. My avatar is also much thinner than me in RL and she is forever young. She is anything I want her to be, all based on how I’m feeling at the moment. That’s the beauty of Second Life, right? We can be just about anything we want? Now, I understand that if you dress as an elf and go to an RP sim where there are other elves, people will assume you are there to RP. The same can be said about any of the characters. I mean, there seems to be a sim for everything these days, whether RP or not. So, naturally if I’m dressed overtly sexy or slutty and I hang out at a popular adult club, its going to happen that someone is going to say something or do something that would not be okay in the real world. I’m not easily offended in either world.
However, as an adult woman in her 40s, I find the age difference disconcerting at times. I hear people say all the time that age is just a number, but I disagree. Age is much more than a number. Age is a reflection of time spent alive, it suggests decades of changes that were either witnessed first hand or merely learned by historians. If I’m closer to your mom’s age than I am to yours, things are going to be weird at times. I know, I’ve been there more than once. Yes, it took more than one for me to learn my lesson. The lesson I learned is that it matters to ME. I always find it ironic when a guy is hitting on me and I ask his age. The minute he tells me he’s under a certain age, I wince and shake my head. I won’t deny that its somewhat flattering when they say, “I like older women” or “age doesn’t bother me.” But c’mon, let’s be real, we all know they are most likely just trying to get laid and that’s fine. Again, adult club…its to be expected. What I find amusing is that they assume that their opinion on the age difference is the only one that matters. Uhm, hello? I asked the question for a reason. I’m not going to relate romantically to a 20yr old guy. Sure, they can lie and say they are older, but the truth will come out eventually. There are certain things that people in their 20s simply could not have experienced and certainly wouldn’t remember, because it happened before their time.
This is not to say that I’m not capable of being friends with people of all ages. We can certainly learn a lot from one another, but knowing that you weren’t even born when I graduated high school? Meh, sorry boys, it just turns me off. So, even if you’re just wanting to get laid, try paying attention to what the woman is saying. The questions she asks means those topics are important to her. This goes both ways, all ways, regardless of gender and/or sexual preference, obviously.
