Can you tell I like donuts?

When I was growing up I knew of two donut shops in the whole city. One was a local shop that was really close to our house. The other was Krispy Kreme, but I had no idea this was part of a chain. I thought we had the only one. So, when I saw the donuts in the grocery store, I found it really odd that anyone would buy them there instead of just going and getting them when they were “HOT NOW.” For those that don’t know the chain, they have a neon light that pops on when the donuts are just done which is the absolute best time to eat them. They melt in your mouth and they are amazing! Of course, a few years later I figured out that you can also achieve this “HOT NOW,” melt in your mouth effect, by popping them in the microwave for a few seconds. However, it wasn’t until I heard about Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell eating them in New York that I realized Krispy Kreme was part of a chain! I was sheltered and naïve, okay? Now that I’m all grown up and far less naïve, I’ve discovered that the best donuts come from different places! Nothing beats a “HOT NOW,” which is what I honestly thought Krispy Kreme donuts were called for most of my childhood. However, for a proper Boston Cream, it has to be Dunkin. Never count out a local donut shop or grocery store bakery though, cuz Publix (a grocery store chain) makes the BEST apple fritters! Can you tell I like donuts? LOL

Trick or Treat

So, with all the hubbub about Halloween and so many countries believing this is strictly a United States thing, I wanted to do a little digging into the history of it all. Turns out we can thank the Irish, the Canadians, and Hollywood for the whole idea of Trick or Treating that we all know today. It’s no secret that I love October. Between my birthday and Halloween, how could I not? Even if you’re not into the dark, bloody, scary side of Halloween, there are all sorts of cute bits out there to help you get in the mood. Plus its the perfect time of year to break out colors you might not otherwise wear, like purple and black…or orange…or just go a teensy bit goth. This is the perfect time to experiment with your look, cuz if you hate it or other people don’t react well, you can just say its a costume, right? There’s so much fun stuff out there right now, I can’t imagine not shopping during October. Let’s face it, most of us don’t need an excuse to shop, but having even more reasons than usual doesn’t hurt either. *winks*

Running Out of Blankets

So, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about or if I was just going to slap some song lyrics in here and call it a day. I decided to look at Facebook to see if any topics jumped out at me or what was the daily ragefest. Surprisingly, I didn’t see anyone going off about anything in particular, but what I did see…well, let’s just say I’m running out of blankets.
As if my mirrors and my recent birthday weren’t enough, not one, but TWO people on my timeline had to point out how freaking old we are. Yeah! One of them had posted a meme about how 20 years ago was 2001, not the 80s and how that doesn’t sit well with them. Now, I totally agree with this meme. It blows me away when I think of time in this way. So, in the comments I yelled at her and gently covered her with a blanket. As I continued scrolling, I come across another meme about how we didn’t screenshot in middle school, we did a three way call and muted. Well, that was too much for me…now another friend is covered with a blanket and quite frankly, I’m running out of blankets. Winter is coming and I’m going to freeze!!

Dragonflies

Ever since I was a little girl, dragonflies have brought me comfort. I remember my friends were terrified by them. Their name alone does seem a bit ominous. However, I was always fascinated by them. Their beautiful quad wings and the iridescent sheen of their bodies almost hypnotized me. Of course, I also thought they were related to fairies. *laughs* The thing is that no matter how bad things were in my life, the moment I saw a dragonfly I felt like God was telling me that everything was going to be alright. While I no longer believe in God, I do very much believe that everything is going to be alright whenever I’m surprised by a dragonfly…whether a real one or not. To this day, they continue to bring me comfort. It’s probably the only insect to ever bring me comfort…lol.
