My 80s Look

This past weekend, I left my blogging haven aka my platform, and I went to two parties at Burrow Company! Yep, two!! I was in a great mood and for good reason. There were two 80s themed parties. Okay, the first one was a DJ set by my gorgeous, talented friend, Phen (who also happens to be a blogger). She played songs from 1980 and it was so much fun! The best part is that I was totally ready for Harlow’s big 80s party later that night, so I was able to rock my Madonna look at both parties. (If you clicked Madonna’s name there, you’ll see my inspiration.) I knew other people would do lots of bright colors, but that’s not really how I remember the 80s. So, I wanted to go for one of Madonna’s edgier looks.

I knew I had everything I needed in my inventory and I’m rather proud of how it turned out. I mean, its not an exact replica, but that’s not as fun as using a pic for inspiration, anyway. So, all the details are below and in honor of my friends, Harvey & Harlow Holiday, I’ve added a little song at the end. *grins*

Both parties were a blast and I can’t recommend a better place to hang out to chill, to explore, to take photos, but they also have some pretty epic events (big & small)…so while I’m giving this massive shoutout to Burrow Company, I want to make sure my readers know that there’s a huge Valentine’s Masquerade Ball. Going Outside

The weather has been so crazy lately, but there have been a few random perfect days. Admittedly, I’m a bit agoraphobic and I absolutely hate leaving my house. However, I do have a gorgeous dog that absolutely refuses to grow opposable thumbs. Thus, I must step out the door from time to time to allow her proper care. I wasn’t always like this and I remember many years of spending as much time outside as I possibly could. I suppose that’s just one more thing I love about Second Life. In this amazing virtual world, I can go anywhere without actually leaving the comfort of my home. I can explore to my heart’s content without anxiety or pain. I am so grateful for the experiences this virtual world affords me.

Believe in Something

Believe in something…live for something…don’t just exist.

It’s difficult to admit that I’ve allowed myself to slip so far down the rabbit hole that I don’t even recognize myself anymore. That I let life get the better of me and relinquished my terms completely. All of my boundaries faded away as I shriveled down into myself. Then I had a conversation with an old friend that really made me think. She suggested that I must have something to look forward to…something to live for…and I couldn’t think of a single one. So, more than a resolution…this is a goal. This year, I will believe in something…might just be that my cat is an asshole, but I will believe in something. I will live for something…not someone…something else…something that’s mine. From there, perhaps I can work on a list other smaller goals I have set for myself. That’s the goal anyway. Finally Unplugged

The familiar chime of an incoming text message made her instantly look at her phone, as if trained like Pavlov’s dog. She sighed as she saw that it was him again. She chastised herself mentally, “I knew I should have left this damn phone in the room.”
She had taken a brief vacation to get away from the hustle and bustle of her daily life. She was pretending to be someone else, as she wanted a complete escape, yet here she was chained to reality by this electronic leash called a smart phone.
She lit a cigarette as she read his latest tirade. She was so sick of his shit. She had come on this trip to get away from him, but here he was nagging at her from a thousand miles away. She decided enough was enough. Texting her sister with the information for where she was staying in case of absolute emergency, she turned her phone off, finished her cigarette and went back into the quaint little beach side pub to finish her wine. She was finally unplugged…at least for a few more days.

Remembering Him

Have you ever met someone that altered your life completely? Someone that was only there for just a little while, but forever altered the course of your life? I did…almost married him, in fact. Fortunately, I didn’t, because looking back, I’m quite sure that wasn’t his purpose in my life, but changes were made that forced me to look at myself far deeper than I ever imagined I would. He still crosses my mind and I have no way of knowing if he’s dead or alive. I wouldn’t dare to look him up, for fear of what I might find. Somethings are just better left in the past.

More Happiness

Naturally, for this picture, I wanted a Tony Hawk quote, because he’s probably the most well known skate boarder in the U.S. Even my 72yr old mother knows of him. Yet, this quote really hits home with me, because my best friend, Kess Crystal, recently did a poll for bloggers, then released the results in her blog, Big Blogger Questions.  I know that every blogger on the grid did not participate in the poll, but I know a fair amount did. The results were a bit surprising, but I think the biggest surprise for me was the amount of bloggers that see blogging as competitive. It was 26%!! I have never seen blogging as competitive. I’m super happy to see talented photographer fashionistas take to blogging.
I started blogging as a distraction…as a form of therapy…a creative outlet. I never looked at other bloggers and thought, “I’m going to be better them.” I used to wonder how one blogger got chosen for a brand vs a blogger that I thought did better photographs, but as I stepped into blogger management, I realized that the designers have a certain vision for how they want their brand to be represented and each has their own criteria. Some will not take on bloggers that feature nudity or curse words. Some brands won’t consider a micro blogger (flickr only). I’ve never been angry with a friend for getting selected for a brand I wanted to blog for and I didn’t. I do my absolute best to surround myself with positive and supportive people. I don’t blog for the hopes of being popular or famous in a virtual world. I do it, because I’m addicted to it. What started off as a for of creative expression and therapy, has evolved to a creative adventure and full on addiction. I’m even prone to overdosing…taking on more than I can handle and edging dangerously close to blogger burnout, but alas, I’ve been able to reign myself in and make it all work.

Selfies or Desire

Okay, so I was struggling with ideas for what to write about with this photo, because this one just kinda happened all on its own. That happens to me a lot. Sometimes I start with looking for a pose to show off an outfit or item and from there I end up building a scene around myself. I just woke up from a nice long sleep and I’m thrashing about for an idea. So, I take the internet and start looking for quotes about selfies and desire. Lord, the quotes about selfies are not very nice. So, with the sexy look of the photo and the neon sign, I decided to look for quotes about desire. Instead of finding something hot or deep, I found myself drawn to quotes that made me chuckle. So, I’m just gonna share a few below, cuz why the hell not?

On Hold

I’ve been approaching a situation with so much caution, because I didn’t want to hurt anyone or for people to misunderstand the situation and think less of me. Naturally, I sought out the advice of my closest friends. They reminded me that people will think and believe what they want, no matter how long I wait. It was then that I realized that those that warrant an explanation will get one. Those that don’t, well, why should I care what they think? Why put my happiness on hold based on what I think they might think? So, later today, I will be announcing my happy news with great pride, and despite what people may think…I haven’t done anything wrong. The timing is just…well, a tad inconvenient and possibly suspicious for some. I can no more stop them from believing that than my ex can stop me from believing what I think about what happened. Oooh, goodness…was that a clue? *grins*
