Be Clear

Making your intentions and expectations clear to other people can save you an incredible amount of heartache down the line. Don’t wait for someone to push you into a corner for an explanation. If you feel that person isn’t worthy of an explanation, go ahead and tell them that. Don’t be a coward. Don’t shy away from confrontation because its uncomfortable, because the unspoken expectations will soon turn to resentments and do far more damage than an awkward conversation about the truth. You can save each other a lot of wasted time and energy by making your desires clear right up front. Tell each other what you want by being open and honest. No one has time for the guessing games, just be clear.

Conditional Love

There’s a lot to be said about the topic of unconditional love and this is a subject I struggle with quite a bit. I don’t think we can necessarily turn off love as if it were a water fountain or a light switch. However, I do think there are times in our lives that we must distance ourselves from people we love. I have loved a lot of people in my life. Despite what people like to believe, I’m a very loving person with a lot of love to give. With that said, I am not perfect, nor will I continue to show someone that love if they mistreat me or endanger my well being. It has taken me years to get to a place where I’m even close to loving myself as completely as I should. I’ll be damned if I’m going to risk that self love for someone that treats me or themselves like shit.
I wouldn’t say that my love has conditions, but there’s only one person on this planet that I will ever love so completely that no matter what they do (imagine the absolute worst) that I would still love them with all of my heart…and that person is my mother. Everyone else? Well, I love some people more deeply than others, but there are some sure fire ways to kill my love. I’ve walked away from people I loved more than once, because they’re too self centered or delusional. Friendship and love are two way streets, you get what you give with me. So, if you treat me as disposable, I will be leave. If you treat me like an option, I’ll remove myself from the equation. It really is that simple, because I’m not gonna be your ride or die knowing you’re going to jump out of the car before we drive off the cliff.

Our Lives on Our Terms

Someone posted on Facebook asking how people get past betrayal and learn to trust people again. This wasn’t about a romance, but simply a friendship exposed. It’s exceptionally sad when we come to the realization that a friendship isn’t what we thought it was. The thing is that we can’t control, predict, or fully know what other people will do…we just have to take them at face value. With any luck, we eventually learn who we can trust with what. There’s no one person that I trust with everything, not even my mother in rl.
I tend to close myself off after a betrayal and I think that’s natural, but we really shouldn’t punish ourselves for what someone else did. We have to learn to love regardless of the hate around us…and enjoy our lives on our terms. We need to be prepared to say goodbye to shitty people and eventually we’ll find ourselves surrounded by nothing but the best. Though to be fair, the happier we are, the more jealous our enemies become….and we all have enemies, whether we deserve to or not. *hugs*

Loyalty

I see a lot of quotes and memes on Facebook about loyalty. If you’re on any form of social media, I’m sure you’ve seen them, too. Now, before I go any further, I’m not one of those contrary types that argues with memes and quotes, especially on the posts themselves. Mainly, because I don’t care that much about such things, but also because its super annoying when people argue with memes. With that said, I am going to point out one major flaw with the theme of all these blind loyalty, unconditional love, ride till you die kinda quotes and memes.
Here’s what got me started, I came across a quote/meme that read: Nothing is more attractive than loyalty. Well, I feel a bit like Dwight Schrute from The Office (U.S. version) when I say, “WRONG!” I mean loyalty is nice, don’t get me wrong, but to say nothing is more attractive? That’s not something I’m going to know about someone for a while. I can see how loyal someone is to someone else, but I can’t know that they will show me that same loyalty. Nor can I know who is deserving of such. Loyalty is really one of those things that come on a case to case basis. Let’s be honest, none of us are 100% loyal to everyone. Loyalty is something we earn from one another. I will be loyal to a friend until they are no longer deserving, but I’m not going to be loyal to someone that proves themselves to be toxic or dangerous or reckless. I mean, Hitler has some very loyal men under his regime, does that make them attractive? Not to me! So, no, I’m sorry, there are a lot of things more attractive than loyalty….like self respect, boundaries, a nice ass, a beautiful smile, a sense of humor…just to name a few.

Is happy boring?

Is happy boring? I ask because when I’m happy I struggle more creatively, but when I’m sad or depressed my creativity flows like an abundant river. I was talking to another blogger and we were discussing how much better our sad photos seem to perform on flickr. This got me to thinking about how I struggle with topics to write about when I’m happy. I used to write tons of poetry, but that all stopped when I got married. I didn’t know how to write proliferous poems about love and happiness. Here I am again, feeling happier than I have in years, but I struggle with topics to write about. Yet, that’s the compliment I get most about my blog….that people like that I write. *sighs*

Perfect Combination

Now, I know that I’m holding the naughty jar of NoTella, but I can’t help but think about the good stuff in real life that we so commonly know at Nutella. Man, that stuff is like the word fuck…it goes with everything…ok, almost everything. I suppose it wouldn’t be good with fish or roast beef, but a single spoonful of this stuff makes a very satisfying dessert. Stoners have long known that a jar of Nutella is their best friend when the munchies come a calling. One of my favorite ways to eat it has always been on one of those buttery crackers that most of us know as Ritz. That perfect combination of salty, buttery, and sweet for taste plus the creamy and crunchy for texture. Purrfection!

Keep Them Happy

Pinning Joe down for photographs is going to be my new hobby!
