What are you complaining about?

I saw something rather bizarre on Facebook the other day. It was an entire thread about a few people who have been liking lots of photos on Flickr lately. The thread started with a question, but what followed was what fascinated and confused me. People claiming that they blocked the person for liking so many of their photos. Uhm, correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t we put our photos on Flickr to be seen and hopefully liked enough to make clicking that little star worth someone’s time? There were several other comments that made me chuckle and tilt my head to the side like a confused dog.

One person said that this person had too much time on their hands. Well, the same could be said about those complaining about so many Flickr favs, couldn’t it? I mean, isn’t that just a complete waste of time? Someone else said that the people faving so much were trying to gather favs themselves. That might be true, but it certainly doesn’t mean you must do so.

From there, someone mentioned people that copy/paste the same compliments over and over again. This is one statement that I can understand both sides of, because I am one of those people. Why? Despite the wordiness of my blog, I don’t always have eloquent words or time to explain all the amazing components that I find in a photo on Flickr. I have several words with cute emojis that I use, because different photos warrant a different type of compliment. However, I assure you that I do not copy/paste these compliments all willy nilly. I only paste them if I believe it, just like I don’t invite photos to my Bringing SLexy Back group if I don’t find the photo to be quite sexy.

I think the bigger question should be, “Why are you all complaining about something so many others are genuinely grateful for?” I personally am grateful that anyone takes the time to like or view anything of mine on any platform. Perhaps today, we could all just take a moment and give thanks for some of our blessings.

  1. On top of this, I saw a whole thread on a Flickr group about SL pictures and how they “weren’t photography” and then they went on to talk about “Contact Collectors” and claimed people who have thousands of followers and follow that many people are “ruining Flickr” and are collecting “contacts” for favs and shit. Correct me if I’m wrong here, but isn’t that the point of posting to Flickr? Sharing, liking and interacting with others on Flickr? I saw people complaining about how Second Life is “ruining Flickr” and how “virtual photography” isn’t photography and then called us all names and said we were “wannabes.” I laughed in one’s “face” and walked away from the group but still it’s offensive and all around bitching. Flickr is a community and as such we are encouraged to share, like and communicate with others. I admit that sometimes I don’t have time to post individual comments and I’ve left some of my awards groups because I couldn’t ever get past the first level and I didn’t think it mattered much anyway…I’ve noticed more exposure since I went pro too and since I stopped posting in 400 + groups LOL That would take me an hour to post in….I now just do the store groups and post in an additional sixty or so groups…I thought that was good enough. The more followers you get, the more views you get and the more likely we’ll be accepted to some of the bigger blogger teams. Anyway, I thought the whole point of Flickr was to interact with each other and these so-called (I saw some of their work LOL) photographers bitching about Second Life (and the people you are referring to in this post) can suck a nut and go to hell… JS Do you and keep having fun with it! ❤

    1. LOL….you should be writing a post about that! I have it under good authority that our virtual photography falls under digital art and that we are quite welcome by Flickr. Now if someone else has an issue with it, they can start blocking SL users. I rarely read threads ON Flickr, I’m not there to read. I look at photos, fav them or don’t, comment or don’t….and hope for the same. I think some people just want to bitch. *shrugs*

      1. Yeah I made the mistake of reading the threads one day…I can’t remember what I was looking for…I think I was searching for how to make the “red hearts” cuz they’re so cute and all I found was second life this and second life that…and I was like F- you all….LOL Got frustrated and never did learn how to make those cute little hearts…LOL (I have a post about Flickr and virtual photography ready to go…I may Vlog it too…not sure yet :P) hehe 😀
