Damn Cat!

One of these days she would learn to stop chasing the damn cat when she runs out the door! Stupid auto-lock doors! Now here she was, wearing nothing but shoes, sitting on the stoop waiting for her roommate. She kwew that Grace would most likely come along doing the walk of shame any minute now. She certainly hoped that Grace would make it home before their sexy landlord came along to find her sitting naked on the stairs with that asshole cat. Lord knows that man had seen enough antics out of these two to last him a lifetime.

Feeding Grounds

Legend has it, she was the daughter of a siren and a deaf sailor, she possessed the hypnotic power and divine hunger of her mother accompanied by the humanity and mortality of her father. It was unknown to her as to how long she would live or what could kill her aside from starvation, but she knew that if she fed on the souls of sailors she aged far slower than normal humans. As it were, she was 167 years old, but didn’t look more than 30. It was only when she did not feed that she would begin to age and she could never venture too far from the shore. For many years she fed on the souls of pirates, but as time went by there were fewer and fewer and those she could find hardly had souls to feed upon.
She was seeking a new feeding ground when she happened upon a beach dotted with ancient ruins. It felt like home and soon enough she developed a taste for rich yacht owners, particularly those driven to take advantage of a beautiful young women. Their souls were especially dark and delicious. She fed both her hunger and humanity with each that she took. She could not know how often they would happen along, but she could recognize the smell of pompous, self-entitlement from miles away.
Smart mothers have tried for years to warn their sons of such a beast, but they continue not to listen…and so she continues to feed.

She’d finally had enough of his crap. She would never be good enough. No one would. He set her up to fail, time after time. “Dress sexy,” he said, “I want to show you off.” So, she dug out the slinkiest dress she owned. “You look like a whore! Go change!” he yelled, “And hurry up!” That was the last time he was going to call her a whore. She was not a doll for him to dress up and show off. She was not going to be made to feel ashamed for trying to please him. It was futile anyway. There was no pleasing him. The only thing he ever did was yell at her and make her feel like crap. Seeing her crumpled in the corner crying was the only way she could find the the resemblance of a heart. Then he would say he was sorry. Then he would kiss her gently and tell her how much he loved her. She was tired of the games. This time she was done and as she said goodbye and walked out the door, all he could say was, “I knew it! You’re a cheating whore…go to your lover, hope he treats you like the whore you are!”
She couldn’t even cry. She’d gotten so used to his verbal abuse that it rolled off her like water on a duck’s back. She was done. She was walking away for good this time. She deserved better and she knew it. She didn’t even bother looking back. She just kept walking.

Facing Her Fear

The water was so cold! She slid her body in feet first….slowly lowering her legs into the frigid pool. She hadn’t been swimming since she was a child and almost drown, but she had to get over that. She had to face her fear. She loved the water, so being afraid of getting in beyond the depths of a bathtub was something she was determined to do. This was the year. After all, how was she going to host a pool party if she couldn’t even get in her own pool.
Yes, she had a pool that she had never swam in. She thought by getting the gorgeous pool with waterfalls and plants installed…well, she thought she would swim. Instead, her nieces used it every other weekend. No more, she was going to do this. She could and she would. She sat there, frozen and shivering with water to her upper thighs. Her arms shaking, “Just let go!” She repeated to herself over and over until her arms gave out and she was in the water. She flailed about for what seemed like an hour, but was honestly more like a minute. Grabbing at the edge of the pool, she got her head above the water and smiled to herself. “I didn’t drown,” she thought.
She inched her way around to the shallow end of the pool until she could stand up and waded about with the water chest high. She noticed that the parts of her that were under water, were warmer than those above and she went a little deeper…until the water was neck high. She remembered her swimming lessons as a kid and slowly lifted her feet, swinging her arms to and fro, “I’m treading water!”
Alright, she was going to be fine. Swimming, check, Overcoming her fear of water, check. Now…about those airplanes….

Topless & Barefoot

There’s this reoccurring dream that I’ve had since I was in middle school and I continue to have it to this day. The location varies, but the situation is always the same! Somehow or another I’m stuck in a public place with no shirt and no shoes! Naturally, I’m filled with a sense of shame and embarrassment. I cover myself the best I can and run to hide, hoping someone will save me from my nudity. The funny thing is that no one else ever seems to notice. There’s no one pointing fingers and laughing. There’s no one asking me what happened to your clothes. There’s just me trying to be invisible and apparently succeeding, but unknowingly. I almost always wake up frantically grabbing at the sheets. *laughs* I asked a few friends if they ever had this dream, as I thought it was rather common, but none of them have admitted it. So, I’m either a weirdo or there’s some psychological reason for it. Hmmmm. Oh, yeah, that’s right, I’m a weirdo!

The Work Out

Part 4 of the Grace & Sady Road Trip

We’ve been eating more than our fair share of junk food and drinking for all of Ireland. So, when we happened across a gym, we decided to stop and get in a work out. We were determined to get to the beach eventually and we needed to be fit for those bikinis we packed. It was a small town, so the gym was lacking in luxury equipment, but we managed to go a few rounds with a punching bag as well some weight lifting and some squats. Although, I didn’t know that punching bags hit back. OUCH! Damn near knocked us out…and its from the floor that we did squats as we tried to stand up after we were damn near knocked out. Naturally with Grace’s thunder thighs, she needed a little help getting up, but we’re calling it squats. *nods*

I might should mention that we were a little stoned while we were at the gym. Lucky for us, the place was pretty deserted. We were able to flirt with the old guy running the place just long enough for him to snap a few pictures of us. As you can see, we worked up quite a swear. *laughs* He even recommended a place down the road where we’d find some good food and a nice place to relax. I suspect he told us about the food so we’d have to come back to his gym. Ha! I don’t think that’s going to happen!

Honky Tonk

Josh and I were attending a Savannah Rain show at Seaside Lounge a while back. We were on voice and Sav started singing Tanya Tucker’s “Love Me Like You Used To.” I got lost down memory lane and told Josh, “This is a true Honky Tonk Song.” Being English, he’s not really familiar with exactly what a Honky Tonk is…so I began to explain it and he insisted that I write it down. So, here it is…

This is one of those songs you play on the jukebox, because there’s not usually a live band unless its Friday or Saturday night. But once in a while on a Monday night, you just get overwhelmed with that bluesy lonely feeling. You crave the dim flickering lights and loud music, being surrounded by people, but not really interacting with them much. You half hope that someone will notice how sad and lonely you are….you half hope they don’t. And then certain songs will simply take you away…you close your eyes to fight the tears as you sing along, as the music is loud enough that no one can hear you anyway. You somehow find some solace in your solitude and in the bottom of a bottle.
Sometimes you go to that particular bar, just hoping you’ll see HIM…as you know he frequents that bar regularly. You remember dancing with him when no one else was dancing. You reminisce about the good times as the tears stream down your face.
Regardless of the reason, you sit alone at the bar and unless you had too many, you leave alone and thankfully a bit more numb. That’s been my experience with Honky Tonks anyway. Yes, its always country music and on weekends its a much livelier place, but weekdays brings out the sad and lonely along with the regulars.

I’d like to add a little note, that not all country music is sad…so you should check out Savannah Rain, she is by far the best live country singer on the grid in my opinion and Seaside Lounge has some great live performances, so be sure to check them out, too. Ya know, when you take a break from shopping and want to show off your pretty new clothes!
