Head in the clouds
Got no weight on my shoulders
I should be wiser
And realize that I’ve got
One less problem without ya!

How often do we resolve to let go of someone or something, only to keep grabbing it at, to keep talking about it…even a year, sometimes even years, after the fact? We know life is better, yet we keep diving into that memory bank forcing ourselves to relive or romanticize the past.  I’m not pointing fingers at anyone, trust me that I don’t know a single person that doesn’t do this to some degree. We all have at least one ex that did a real number on us and permanently altered our outlook on life. I’m not talking about that feeling of falling backwards through some musical portal because of an unexpected song. I’m talking about still making decisions hoping that someone is still watching. With all the social media at our fingertips its easier than ever to keep tabs on ex friends and lovers. Easier for us to be stalked, too.

William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.”

I can only imagine what he would think of said stage with all of the ways we put on a show these days. One look at YouTube will prove that anyone can be on film these days. So, back to what I was saying…why? Why do we insist on parading our lives about like peacocks displaying our plumage? I can tell you that peacocks are showing off in the hopes of getting laid…so what’s our excuse? Most of us would immediately jump to the defense and deny that we’re trying to seduce an ex. So why are we seeking their attention? What are we hoping to gain? Oh look what you lost. If our value was recognized, it wasn’t for the photos or actions done after the break. Not to mention that what we’re doing is pretty damn obvious to everyone around us. I can only come up with one answer: We didn’t honestly let go…we’re simply swinging in and out of the past. When we’re truly ready to let go we’ll soar high and leap from that swing and move on to another area of our proverbial playground without looking back. Gawd, my brain hurts sometimes…*facepalms*
In the meantime, may we all get the attention we seek and get even closer to leaping off the swings, running across the playground and sliding into our future. Nothing wrong with having our head in the clouds, so long as we keep our feet on the ground. I’ll see you at the playground! *winks*
