Waiting Games

Electronics have become the common go to method for passing time. Its evident in waiting rooms around the world as people stare into their phones and tablets. Most of us take them everywhere. Hopefully, we put them down while we drive! I do, so should you, but no lectures today. ☺ I hate to admit how attached I’ve become to my smart phone and other electronics to be honest. The cats and dog have been trained to avoid cords and to use caution when humans are holding their phones. Fortunately, I rarely run into a dead battery, but there have a been a few times that I’ve had to put them all down so they can charge and the waiting game begins.

Its always when my electronics are temporarily out of reach or commision that I remember all the things I need to do with them or to them. In turn, I’m creating an even bigger need for them, which then makes the waiting all the more agonizing. Those that know me well know that I have no tolerance for boredom. I will always find a way to amuse myself no matter what the situation. I am an only child that spent a great deal of my early childhood in isolation. I have a fantastic imagination and I will find adventures at every turn. I’m sure we all played the “hot lava” or “sharks/gators in the water” games when we were kids, right? Hopping from one piece of furniture to another…taking great care to never touch the floor, while giggling and squealing with delight as we narrowly miss our imaginary doom. Now here we all are in a virtual world playing with virtual clothes and furnishings and still escaping doom! At least escaping it for a while anyway…*giggles*

I realize I’m sort of rambling, but that’s how my mind works sometimes. Welcome to the madness! What started this train of thought? I’m glad you asked. Yes, you did ask…this conversation is happening in MY mind and it was there that you asked just that question. Now, hush and let me answer. *grins*
I was putting together the scene above to display the Ramses Collection from Fancy Decor for the September round of The Arcade, which we are all anxiously waiting for…see what I did there? I know I mentioned the set a few days ago and teased you with a sneak peak, but  there are 19 pieces available in this set and each piece is exquisite. In the previous post about the collection I indicated that the chairs and sofa come with a hud that allows you to change the color of the fabric. I showed you a gorgeous purple chair. As I put this room together I knew I had to show you the luxurious silver suede. Isn’t it stunning?
Okay, so why insert myself in a picture about furnishings? Because I’ve been waiting days and days for the dress I’m wearing here and since the post is called Waiting Games, its only right that I show you something else that I waited on, right?

One of the many luxuries I enjoy in Second Life is the ability to change my address in a matter of minutes and redecorating my home in a matter of hours or days. I can live as luxurious or as humble as my mood determines. I’m not rich in real life and I’ve never been one of those that pursued the rich life. I remember when I was younger, there was a rather wealthy man interested in me and my mother was encouraging me to date him. Well, that was her first mistake, what 20 year old is going to date the man her mother wants for her? Not this one. More importantly, I just wasn’t attracted to him physically or mentally, certainly not emotionally.

Anyway, the real point of this post is that in Second Life we can be royals if we want to and there’s never been a better time to pursue that luxurious lifestyle, because coming up on September 1st The Arcade is back! Let the Gacha Games commence!
That means tons of fantastic & fun finds like the very posh Ramses Collection from Fancy Decor. This set includes 19 items, with three Rares! THREE! That means your odds are pretty favorable, yeah? If that’s not fantastic enough, the two chairs and sofa in this set? Yeah, they come with a color hud, which allows your four options. Perfectly Flawed

I’ll be completely honest. I’m the kind of girl that learns most of her life lessons the hardest way possible. I don’t know how many real life musicians I had to date, before I figured out that they were not for me. I tried every drug that came my way, fortunately without the use of needles. I’ve tried a variety of clothing styles. Some of them were definitely not meant for my body type. I’ve tried an endless array of hairstyles, again not all of them fit. I’ve had all types of jobs from restaurants & hotels to medical to office administration. I’ve been friends with people from all walks of life. Thinking I was open minded enough not to judge some of their bizarre lifestyle choices. And before you get your panties twisted, I mean actual lifestyle choices like having pink hair in real life knowing it will limit your job/career options(not that bizarre) or decorating your yard with zombie gnomes (#lifegoal). Even now, I don’t want to list the choices I personally find bizarre, because to each their own. I simply cannot understand or relate to somethings and quite frankly think others are just plain fucked up and wrong (zoophilia.)

With that said, one thing I’ve never been good at is saving money. Ever. I can hold someone else’s money and never touch it, but my own? Nope. I’ll spend it everytime and most of the time it isn’t even spent very wisely. Yes, I do worry a little bit about what life will be when I’m older, but I do have some things in order. I have a home that’s paid in full. For now a working car that I love and is also paid in full. If I end up alone, I’ll have a spare bedroom I can rent out. So, I’ve thought about those things, see?
However, who promised that I’d grow old enough for that plan? Who promised me that Linden Labs would survive more than a year after I joined in 2006? Who guaranteed me a life worth living when I’m 60? NO ONE. So, yes, I’ve chosen to live life a bit on the edge. Daring myself to enjoy one moment after the next, however I see fit.

I do my best not to hurt people along the way, but none of us are perfect and on occasion we will all hurt someone we love. Whether its a seemingly harmless joke wrapped in barbed wire or simply a careless action or God forbid desires that overrule all common sense. What matters is that we learn to forgive, so that we don’t carry those resentments around weighing down our souls. What matters is recognizing what we’ve done and not simply apologizing, but amending our behaviors. What matters is letting go of those that consistently harm us, even if they seem beneficial in other areas of our lives. What matters is genuinely learning to love ourselves, flaws and all.

What matters is being true to ourselves, because if we can’t be loving, true, and kind to ourselves? We’ll never be able to genuinely offer those attributes to another individual.

Until you can live your life and love it, you have nothing but lies to offer the rest of us.

My life sure isn’t perfect, nor am I, but I know one thing for sure:
I AM PERFECTLY FLAWED!

Oh where to start? Do I make the analogy about not being afraid to love again? Or talk about the actual weather? Decisions…ugh…someone decide for me!
Alright, alright, the truth is, I wanted to make the analogy about love, because a dear friend of mine is going through a hard time recovering from the bitter taste of betrayal  from a previous relationship. We’ve all been there, but a hardened heart is not the answer. We can’t punish ourselves by leaving in fear.
Love hurts…a lot…a lot of the time, but when its good….is there any better feeling? I’m no expert. God knows, I screw up all the time. I’m personally doing pretty well at the moment and I’m counting my blessings, but it wasn’t too long ago that my friends had to keep the light of hope open for me. I was done. I was ready to give up forever. Seriously, it was dark and I will be forever grateful to the stength loaned to me by my dearest friends.
Its ok to wallow for a while. Sometimes we need that. Its okay to cry and kick and scream at the sky. Those tantrums can be quite therapeutic. So can shopping! So, before I go all Deepak Chopra on you…lets talk about how we can battle the storms or better yet, CREATE some storms in Second Life. Ok, I think we all know how to create a storm in SL, lets not go stirring up drama, I meant a literal storm…full of bright colors and glitter, yessss, THAT kind of storm. Unexplored

I think the same can be said about Second Life. I’ve been roaming about the grid for almost 10 years now and I’ve seen a lot of changes, but one thing that remains constant is that there some absolutely gorgeous sims being created all the time. All you have to do is get out there and explore! I am a teensy bit of a control freak when it comes to setting up my pictures which is why I often create my own scenes. I love creating these scenes and it certainly makes getting that perfect shot a lot easier, because I can move that pillow that’s poking through my leg or turn the chair, instead of my avatar, because that shadow is perfect! However, few scenes I make can begin to compare to some of the incredible beauty put together on sims made specifically for exploring. So, with that in mind, I packed up my poses and headed out on the grid in search of somewhere that would call to me and I found just the place at Winter Moon.

I really enjoyed playing with just my poses and just enjoying the scenery. Just laying back, literally, and taking it all in. It’s such a beautiful place, I didn’t make it far from the landing point when I found this little resting place.

But it wasn’t long before I got back on my feet and started walking. As I started crossing this bridge to what I happened to cam over and see was going to lead to a gorgeous beach…I stopped and enjoyed the view. I actually didn’t make it past the bridge this time, because a friend of mine came along and I started taking pictures of her, too. This sim screams for pictures and though I’m technically wearing a swimsuit, I was not planning on a beach shoot. I love taking an outfit that perhaps is meant one way and turning it into something entirely different with my immense collection of accessories. That’s exactly what I did with this one piece from Cynful. One my favorite things about the clothes Cynthia puts out is that her designs are so versatile. No matter what your style, her stuff will fall right in line with whatever you have going on in your inventory.

So, the next time you catch yourself with time on your hands in Second Life, grab some poses and head out to explore. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never taken pictures in SL before, go have some fun.

What if…

People that have watched movies with me will tell you they either love it or hate it, because I have a way of taking things to a whole new level. Beyond the screaming and grabbing when something jumps out at me. Beyond the bursting into tears when the scene becomes even slightly emotional. Beyond laughing too loud or too long at the funny stuff. Beyond the ending that leaves you wondering what happened after it fades to black. You see, I’m an only child, and I spent a great deal of my early childhood in isolation. Therefore, I have a very vivid imagination.
So, many movies leave me wondering…what if….
What if he didn’t know he saw dead people? What if Rose had shared her wooden board with Jack? What if Rhett DID give a damn? What if the zombies ate everyone and there were no survivors left? What if…Dorothy had abused the power of the red slippers and joined forces with the wicked witch and destroyed Oz!?!?!?

I know, I know…what if Sady stopped drinking while writing her blog? Pfft, now what fun would that be? Anyhooo….here’s my version of wicked Dorothy…sorry, but my Dorothy wanted one of those monkeys and she listened to way too much R-Kelly, so she believed she could fly…maybe that’s Tinkerbell in her broom lantern…maybe….maybe I’ll shush now. I’ve written before about lyrics being misunderstood or misheard. Purple Haze is one of those songs for me. I was one of the many that thought the song said, “Excuse me while I kiss this guy.” Its funny now, but it changes the song completely and what the song meant to me for many years. I think the most amusing thing I’ve read about this song is that he wrote this song after having a dream about a purple haze engulfing him while he was underwater and that Jesus saved him. Ironically, most people think the song is about drugs…LSD trips to be more specific.

I love that music can inspire people in so many ways. I think Second Life is like that, too. We came to SL for a variety of reasons and I always think its interesting to find out what and who brought people to SL. My real life friend, Jenni, brought me to SL…we won’t talk about her master plan to get rich and how quickly that failed. Let’s just say that three months later, she had left SL and I had begun to meet people that would forever alter the course of my life.

I am so grateful for the Second Life community and the boundless friendships that I’ve cultivated across the grid…around the world. I am grateful for the creative outlet allowed me through blogging and photography. Most of all…well…Excuse me while I kiss this guy.

Wrecking Ball

This is one of those songs that people either love or they hate. For me, I think I’ll always love it, because the lyrics and melody are so powerful. Naturally, I can’t help but chuckle a bit at times when I hear it because I think of the video and all the parodies that have come out since. Oh, how I wish they had reigned in some of their ideas for that video. I think this song could have been less of a joke if Miley hadn’t licked that damn sledge hammer. The fact remains that I love the song and it struck a chord the first time I heard it and still does. I’ve been the wrecking ball and I’ve been wrecked. Haven’t we all? And not just by love, but other relationships, too. Doesn’t matter if its friends, lovers, or even family. We are all subject to the proverbial wrecking ball.
(Ok, it might not really be proverbial, but its my post and I say it is…shhhh, I do what I want, you know this.)

As I’ve been working on this post, I’ve been thinking about how we tear down each other’s walls and sometimes we just tear each other down. Even how sometimes we are the wrecking ball in our own lives. Sometimes that can be a good thing, others not so much. We’ve probably all impacted someone’s life one way or the other, so we’re left to ask ourselves which type of wrecking ball are we? What kind of wrecking ball do we want to be? I’m going to step out on a limb and assume that most of us try to be good people. None of us are perfect and from time to time we screw up. *gasps* Yet, we continue to subscribe to bullies and their tactics, regardless of their intent, their motives, or their tactics. As mature adults (sticks her tongue out, I can be mature…shhh), we have the power to fight the nastiness, but not with more hate…we need more love.

So, for today, how about we all go out and try building each other up, instead of tearing each other down. I think the world could use a nice boost of positive energy and what better community to do it than Second Lifers? Afterall, we are world wide!

Tea Party? Nah! Let’s drink wine!

Ok, so when I first saw the Garden Soiree Set by unKindness at Collabor88, I immediately had the above mentioned song in my head. I knew I had to have a little gathering of my roommates for a photo. Anyone that knows my crew, knows that we’re not exactly tea drinkers…so it had to be a wine party, right? Well, imagine getting five very creative and strong personalities together, suggesting a theme and giving them some freedom to express themselves…yeah, madness ensued.

I am very fortunate that they let me believe I had any sense of control while shooting these photos or that I had any influence at all over their outfits. I said, “Go for it…be bizarre…be creative.” I should have known that Rom would show up in his favorite boots. Tracy, of course, shows up in as little as possible. Afterall, “Tracy’s flickr” is our favorite answer to all Cards Against Humanity questions (try it, it works). When I told them to hop on the pose stands I had filled with poses from Del May, Grace immediately asked if she could be passed out on the table. It only seemed natural that she would be, so I had to say yes. I knew the minute I saw the dress from sYs that I’d be wearing it for the party and when Sino saw it, he quickly put together his own stunning look.

Being surrounded by friends this way was amazing and I’m not sure I can even begin to explain the conversations we had while I shot these photos, but I can’t recommend the experience enough. I know we all gather at clubs and dance to our favorite DJs. That is so much fun in its own right, but please if you’ve never done it…have a party at home with your closest friends. Ask them to dress in theme and break out the cameras, because THIS?
Yeah, in almost 10 years on the grid, these types of little parties have always been my favorite. We might not have been genuinely drunk in real life, but we sure were high on life and I’m so grateful that I was able to catch this madness on virtual film. Even when things went a bit haywire with my poses stands, the fun continued.

The Garden Soiree Set inspires the oncoming of fall and it just so happens that its mine and Tracy’s favorite season…no, that has nothing to do with the fact that both our birthdays are in October…pssshaw! Its the time of pumpkins, caramel apples, cinnamon candles, hot cocoa…ok, lots of apple things…Halloween…falling leaves…all sorts of good stuffs! So, we got a little excited…and its really a very lovely set, despite the madness represented here. We’d Smoke Weed

It’s no big secret that I’m an advocate for the legalization of marijuana and I’m not going to use my blog as a political soapbox. I think most people would agree that weed is a pretty chill drug and that if you smoke it…you’ll be chill, too. With that said, I’ll simply agree with the wise words of the late and great Tupac. More than ever, I’d like to buy the world a blunt (instead of a Coke) and we’d smoke weed.

So. lets talk about the amazing stuff in this photo…no, not the girl, silly…that’s just me!
The other awesome stuff! The groovy camper is one I grabbed during the last Arcade and I thought it fit in perfectly with the Weed Shop gacha set from 7mad;Ravens at The Gacha Garden. Yes, I went there again…don’t judge me, I’m not ready for Gachas Anonymous just yet…although…no, nevermind that…LOOK! Lets just set up shop and get high!
Yeah, so its no secret I love the herb so when I saw this set you know I was elated and there was no way I was going to let this go unblogged. So, for all my smokers and tokers out there…now you know where to go to get the goodies! Yeah, I might be blazed…I’ll leave the information below and you all can go on over and explore the garden, because where else would you find the most perfect marijuana plants, but in a garden?
