What I Need

In the real world, I live in the Southern U.S. region and there are some pretty common phrases around these parts that have various meanings depending on the context in which they’re used. One of those is “Y’all need Jesus” or “You need Jesus.” I refer to the state of Alabama (where I actually live, don’t judge me) as the buckle of the bible belt. So, you can just imagine how often this particular phrase is used. It always amuses me a bit, because I am not religious at all, nor am I a Christian. While I do believe I have a spiritual connection and don’t dispute that there are definite powers greater than me, there’s not a particular religion to which I subscribe.

When I say it, and I think this is true for most people that say it, I’m telling someone they need help. I’m never serious when I say this, because I’m the person that suffers from such bizarre insomnia that I actually dream about not being able to sleep. People ask me all the time, “Do you ever sleep?” I promise I do, its just here and there. Sometimes, I can’t sleep more than an hour or two a day. Other times, I can’t stay awake for more than an hour or two. The latter usually happens when my body is beyond tired and the only way I can shut off this insane brain of mine  is by popping a Xanax. Once that kicks in, I’m useless until it wears off. Given my snail’s pace metabolism, that can mean a day or two at least.
With that said, my friends (especially my SL friends) find it particularly funny when I use this phrase. They also thought that I needed both this shirt and this hair…so here I am proudly claiming my Southern roots and all the silly phrases that go with it.

So…while the rest of y’all need jesus…my ass needs some sleep. LOL!

Pants Are Overrated

For a good portion of the world, it is summertime. For me that means unbearable heat and humidity. I hate sweating, but I do appreciate the warm weather. I appreciate that, more than any other time of the year,  I can enjoy fewer layers and I find comfort in some of life’s simplest pleasures.  Ice cream, smoothies, iced coffee, capris, sandals…oh the list is endless. Yet, one of the simplest things that I find myself loving so much during the summer months is sitting comfortably at home wearing no pants and no bra!

You hear it across the web on multiple platforms, particularly by gamers, “Pants are overrated!” Well, I couldn’t agree more. While the idea of some people sitting around in the underwear communicating with people around the world might inspire disturbing images for some, I find it comforting and humorous. I’m notoriously guilty of wearing little more than you see here while curled up with my laptop, the remote, and/or a good book.
Its funny how my mind has changed about such things as I’ve gotten older, because once upon a time…ok, in my twenties…I swore by the mantra, “It doesn’t matter if its comfortable or not. What matters is that it looks good!” Now, I don’t know if its my age or if fashion has gradually embraced the necessity for comfortable clothes, thus creating more attractive styles. Perhaps, its simply my perspective and I’ve become a little more selective when shopping for clothes in the real world. Either way, my mantra has changed and now I’m more concerned with whether or not my apparel needs to be ironed. I hate ironing.
Thank goodness neither are a concern in Second Life, but lets embrace the “NO PANTS are the best pants” manta anyway!

Mad World

I’ve long argued that the world is not worse than it used to be, we simply know more about what’s going on around the world due to technological advances. There’s not more child abuse, rape, war, hate, or all out madness. Slavery is still very much alive. None of these things went away. They simply found new ways to hide and we found a new way to publicize the truths..and sadly the lies.

It truly is a mad world out there and I often find myself empathizing and at time envying agoraphobics. However, the simplest way to counteract the complete madness of the world is to contribute to the brighter side. To walk out the door with fear. To drop some change into the homeless person’s cup even if he might buy booze or drugs with it. Its my duty and my pleasure to be kind to strangers in a world full of fear mongering hate. I smile at the lady who scowls at me in the grocery store and on a good day, I’ll even chuckle about it later.

There’s also a very twisted sick part of me, for I am no saint (I know you’re shocked!). I often find myself amused at the ridiculous stupidity of criminals. I’m as bad as the next person for making fun of orange political figures (there’s more than one, calm your tits) and empty headed news personalities. I honestly believe that for most of us it boils down to perception and personal responsibility. After all, we’re responsible for how we react and respond to the world around us. We each have a responsibility to ourselves to make the most of this mad world. I’m not going to be paralyzed by fears of terrorism or anarchy. I’m going to live my life to the fullest. AND if the day comes that civil unrest lands at my front door, well…I’m no doomsday prepper, so we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meanwhile, I’ll deal with what’s on my plate…you know the one in my lap that tells me I need to see a doctor about this pesky ear infection.

Imagine

I can’t imagine anyone not love this song, but in today’s world that is being ravaged by violence and hate. I cannot help but hold onto the belief that there are enough dreamers like me that want a peace and unified world. I have to believe that we the peace lovers of this world outnumber those with hearts filled with hatred and ignorance.
A lot of the creators and shopping events across the grid right now are sharing some pretty common themes, like Boho, Summer, Southwest, etc.  It brings so much peace into my Second Life to surround myself with the trendy Bohemian themes and collections. I am a child of the 70s and I grew up drawing pictures that reflected the posters I saw being held by protesters all over the world. Make Peace, Not War. I was looking at some of the pictures I drew as a child that my mother has held onto over the years and it broke my heart that we’re here again. Living in a war riddled with war and civil unrest.

The brilliant colors are easily mixed together to brighten any Second Life home and as much as I absolutely love black and the darker side of life, I need the bright colors to balance it all out. It fuels my spirit with hope and tends to brighten my days, even when I occasionally want to wallow in self pity or feat. So, I say thank you to all the designers that are bringing such colorful treasures into my life. I, for one, need them more than ever. I hope that you’re finding what you need in Second Life to brighten your world. The world is plenty dark enough these days.

Sady and the City

I realize I have already blogged about Elysium City of Templemore, but if you’ve been there you understand my enthusiasm and if you haven’t you should go soon. After only one visit you will surely share my excitement. As my dear friend, Grace Sixpence, so eloquently put it, “OMG! Everytime I’m here, I discover something new!” The same has been true for me. There is so much to see and explore, you could spend hours there and still discover something new. As if the scenery isn’t enough to draw you in…they present some of the absolute best live musicians on the grid quite regularly. A great way to keep up with what’s going on is to like the official Elysium City of Templemore Facebook page.

After shopping at Shiny Shabby, I knew exactly where I wanted to take my photos to present some of my latest finds. What I didn’t know is that I’d run into some of my good friends that were already there exploring or that I’d discover two new spots to shoot my photos. Okay, I actually discovered four, but only used two for this post. *giggles*

I could gush on and on about this location, but I really want to encourage you to go check it out for yourself. Its truly beautiful and I am so grateful for all the hard work that went into it. I’m especially grateful that the owners have such a generous spirit and are willing to share this amazing paradise. It proves the quote by Walt Whitman, because this city is truly founded and fueled by great people.

Fighting For Peace

This has been one of my all time favorite quotes for a very long time and with all of the wretched violence going on in the world right now, it makes more sense than ever. I won’t get into my political views or where I stand on so many of the violent events happening, not just in my country, but around the world. I just want to point out that no matter what side of things you stand on….violence is NOT the answer. It is not until we stand together against the violence that any resolution can occur.

Too many innocent people are being murdered around the world for no reason. More than ever, please try to cherish one another and remember that everyone is cherished by someone…no matter what you think of them…someone loves them and its not all about YOU. The world is a big place, we need to take care of it and each other. *steps off her soapbox and starts kick boxing with Sino*

This City Has Gone to the Dogs

This is probably the most fun I’ve had putting a picture together and to be honest, it had me feeling a bit like Cruella DeVille, despite the fact that there’s not a single Dalmatian in the mix. However, I was speaking with Jamie Cross of unKindness about her amazing Concrete Jungle gacha set for The Epiphany and we started talking about some of the other amazing sets that were in this round. One of the sets we talked about was the JIAN Countryside Collies Gacha set and how precious those little dogs were. At that moment the proverbial light bulb lit up over my head and I knew right away that this post was going to happen.

In these photos there are the white sleek dogs ({anc} flottante puppy. milk), there are a few labs from O.M.E.N., some Whippets from Foxes,  the Dobermans are from a pose  credited below, but all of the other canines are from Jian. Regarding the all of the adorable dogs from Jain: The cute collies are, of course, from this round of Epiphany, but the rest can be obtained at the mainstore. The buildings…naturally, are part of the Concrete Jungle set from unKindness at Epiphany, and though I keep forgetting to mention it, the roads are from the :Fanatik Architecture: NEW YORK set, available on marketplace and their mainstore.

Feline Frisky

This quote makes me giggle, because I have three cats in real life and one dog. However, the cats are all boys and the dog is female. Which leaves the human man in the house a bit outnumbered. LOL. There’s an abundance of attitude and demands going on around my house, not to mention the Chaos and Mayhem…those that know me will catch that little joke. Two of my cats are 6 1/2 month old brothers appropriately named, Chaos and Mayhem. These two burst to life at the two regular bedtimes in my house…midnight and 6 am.

They are indeed the epitome of asshole cats. They will stare me straight in the face as they begin knocking things off a shelf or table, knowing their little feline paws are faster than my human legs and my shouting, “STOP!” is an exercise in futility. Just like cats choosing to do what they want. when they want…I will readily admit I am much the same way. Most of my female friends are, as well. So, for any fellas out there that might happen to be reading my blog…sit back and relax, we got this. *purrs*

So, some of the goodies at The Epiphany inspired this post…from the Concrete Jungle gacha that unKindness has created to the delightfully wicked Energy set that Blueberry has taunted us with and there’s just so much more…you’ll be sure to see plenty more of my Epiphany goodies in the upcoming posts. Still of the Night

Now, I realize to some it might seem strange to have a love song for your closet aka wardrobe aka inventory, but for me its seems only logical. You see, I spend more time getting to know my wardrobe than I do most people. I realize that may sound shallow at first, but keep in mind that I absolutely love shopping. Some might call it an addiction, I like to think of it as more of a stylish hobby. Okay, so I mentioned having a love song for my closet. Let me explain.

It all started in the middle of the night. I was awake and playing in my oversized inventory while thinking about upcoming and current shopping events. This song came on and immediately I had this feeling that the lyrics applied. So, have a look for yourself at the lyrics to Still of the Night by Whitesnake.

You get it now, right? If not, I’m not going to further incriminate myself by explaining it. I know I’m weird, Every once in a while, I hope to find someone as weird as me. That’s all.

Southern Fried

One place I’ve always wanted to visit is the desert. To go out West and see the sun setting over a sea of endless sand. I love that not only can I visit a place like that in sl, but I can actually create one myself. Thanks the amazing designers across the grid. It hasn’t been in the cards for me to visit the West in RL, and that’s okay. I’ve seen a lot of amazing places and met tons of amazing people from all over the world, not just in SL, either.

The farthest West I’ve ever been would be Louisiana or Missouri, I’m sure and while I might not make it to the Grand Canyon or even Texas, what I can do is combine my pale skin with the love of the SouthWest to create the perfect oasis getaway right in Second Life. There are so many amazing events going on right now, but you’ll notice that most of the items shows here are from TLC and the theme is fantastic.
This past weekend, I was able to do combine both worlds without leaving the South and I’ve returned home like the chicken we’re so famous for, FRIED. I am so red I’m almost purple. Yes, I am as pale in real life as my avatar in Second Life. I had the best girls’ weekend getaway with two amazing ladies from SL, Blondie & Nikole. I was welcomed with big, warm hugs and a happy home. We spent almost an entire day in the pool and let me tell you, it was worth every OUCH I’m experiencing now as a result of my sunburn.

While I recover from my real life getaway, why don’t you join me on the grid for some retail therapy?
